A historic moment on the northern beaches of Duck, North Carolina today.

The first beach nourishment program has officially begun. The Liberty Island dredge arrived in the Town of Duck on Tuesday, May 23rd at Widgeon Road, moving North approximately 1500 feet, between Canvasback and Sprigtail Drive. The Liberty crew set up dredging infrastructure and commenced operations beginning by pumping a foundation of sand onto the beach.

From the Town of Duck, the sand is placed according to an engineered plan with a specific criteria for a built beach (berm) and storm projection.
